Western Glen Affric ... September 2005
Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan, - An Socach, - Mullach na Dheiragain

Walking the big glens.
A very warm and hazy day with not even a slightest breeze, perfect above the 2000' mark, but below this level it was insect hell, Ticks everywhere, Midge giving no peace, and swarms of Deer Fly. The Hazy weather appears far worse in the pictures than what it was in reality, anyway, it is my excuse for the low quality images!

The walk in from Killilan through Glen Elchaig

The route now leaves the track and heads into the deep cut coire on the right, to the falls of Glomach.

A very faint path cuts along the steep sided coire.

Although one of the highest falls in the highlands, I was unable to find a descent viewpoint. I believe you can descend to the foot of the falls, something I was unwilling to do on a walk that already involved a considerable amount of ascent and descent. The other reason was the Ticks this entire glen was infested with these horrible disease carrying parasite, I discovered 20 or more crawling round on my skin, thankfully none embedded!

Glen Gaorsaic, with the Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan starting to come into view. A good point to stop and remove ticks!

Heading east from Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan. The massif in front, is that of Carn Eighe & Mam Sodhail. My next hill is the
Munro An Socach, which is the relatively low looking hill below the horizon on the right.

Crossing high up in Glean a' Choilich. Looks like a nice place to stop, it wasn't, the midge allowed me about one minute Who says they don't like bright sunshine. Beinn Fhionnlaidh is the hill on the horizon.

The 12 mile walk off from the top of Dheiragan was spectacular, however due to swarms of Deer Fly and Midge I was unable to stop long enough to take even one single picture!

This is a Deer Fly, a horrible Greasy, sticky, bloodsucking little insect .................
