Beinn Udlaidh & Beinn Bhreac-liath
Glen Orchy
16th March 2008

A varied but always interesting walk round a deep forbidding coire. Beinn Udlaidh has the feel of a much big hill, and the summit plateua of Beinn Bhreac-liath is an absolute joy to traverse.

Beinn Bhreac-liath to the left and Beinn Udlaidh to the right.
This picture was taken at the side of the A82 a mile or so north of Bridge of Orchy.

The walk in through the commercial forest is boggy and hard going, and with all forestry of this nature there is the ever present worry you will come to a dead end and either have to back track or start crawling.

Looking north over Bridge of Orchy and Loch Tulla to Rannoch Moor.
This hill has a very noticeable band of schist running up its north east flank very visible while traveling south on the A82 (see the second picture above)
this picture along with the next are taken from that band.

Pity the summit is ruined by this heap of junk.

(the only way I managed to keep the heap of scrap metal out of the picture was to sit on the top of it!)

This was an absolutely spectacular view that I have miserably failed to capture in this picture.
Coire Ghamhnain on this day looked a deep forbidding place.

A view of the west highland railway line as it navigates Auch glen in a magnificent horseshoe.
