Meall na Meoig

The
40 mile drive in from Pitlochry to Rannoch Station is an ordeal on a good
day, tonight it turned into an endurance event, freezing rain had turned
the road into a skating ring and 20mph was about top speed, the last 6
mile was particularly poor and I had to resort to the snow chains.

Heading
north on the "road to the isles" Early morning sunshine was short lived
with cloud appearing on the hill tops, a little disappointing after a
near perfect forecast.

Looking
north to Beinn Pharlagain, Meall na Meoig is hidden behind in low cloud.

Looking
back south over the walk in. On the right is Loch Laidon, with the Bridge
of Orchy hills on the horizon. The large expansive moorland is the famous
Rannoch Moor.

A
moment of clarity at the summit cairn of Meall na Meoig. This was as good
as the visibility got. Occasionally it would deteriorate into full whiteout.
A phenomena that is totally disabling affecting the mind and balance.

Finally
out of the cloud and looking south west down Coire Eigheach. Not much
of a photo but truly spectacular in reality.

Spectacular
snow condition, but hellish breaking trail, it took me about two hours
to cover one mile.
